The problem

From 18 February 2027, every EV battery, light-means-of-transport battery and industrial battery over 2 kWh placed on the EU market must carry a digital battery passport accessible by QR code — carbon footprint, materials provenance, state-of-health data and more, maintained over the battery's life. The obligation falls on whoever places the battery on the market, which in Czechia means the automotive supply chain: Škoda Auto's EV programme, battery and module plants, industrial-battery importers, e-bike and scooter brands.

Why now: the date is hard, there is no transition period, and the passport requires supply-chain data collection that mid-sized firms have not built — upstream suppliers must feed data they have never systematically produced.
